Quality over quantity
Lately I’ve done some research on the internet and I was looking for great marketing advice for my business. One thing for sure, nowadays we are surrounded by different kinds of tips how to succeed and how to be a great leader. We can read so many articles like: How to become successful? 10 habits that every successful person has! How to stay positive and persistent.. etc etc Some of them are really good and I share those opinions, but today I want to focus on one of these advice, which is the same for LinkedIn as for any other social media, and that is: to have as many followers as possible. I must admit at one point I felt that I kinda lost myself in all these advice. Especially this one.
I got lost because I was trying to think like others.
And honestly I felt deep inside that’s not actually what I want/can do. I know, lots of people are desperate to get followers.. whether it is LinkedIn, Instagram, Facebook or other social media.. the real question here, as always, and not just for your business is: what is your intention? What is your objective? Why would you like to have 1.000.000 followers?
First of all – Number of your followers will make you more visible. Yes it will. Is it going to mean something for your business if you are more visible? Yes, of course. You will be visible. :)))) But.. the key here, at least for me, is not about quantity, but quality. It is about your target. I won’t be happy with 1.000.000 followers if they don’t like what I do. Having 1.000.000 followers means nothing to me. I prefer to stay “small” but to see that my work is liked! Wanted. And respected. For sure, after some time Quality will out!
Let me put it this way, so you can see my point: statistically if you have 1.000.000 random followers and 1% of them like what you do (buy your goods, if you’re selling something) it means that only 10.000 will be interested in your business. But if your target is to attract and to have 100.000 followers who are following you because they like what you do and 60% will buy your goods.. it means you will have 60.000.
So, like in any other sphere of life I value Quality over quantity! Focus on quality! One of my motos has always been:
IF ANYONE CAN HAVE IT, I DON’T WANT IT.
I like quality, originality, unique things. Well, not just things, people with these qualities as well. :)))
The most important thing is.. Whether you are good at selling or not, as usual you should be asking yourself these questions:
1. What are you selling?
2. What do you stand for?
3. Who do you represent (this especially goes for those unwanted -marketing phone calls, people who try to sell you something..)?
4. What is your value and what is the value that you bring to the world?
5. What’s your intention?
6. What is your goal?
Another thing, if you want to read or hear and accept advice and to apply them, be sure that these advice came from successful people. Also, don’t forget to follow your intuition! And to believe in magic. Yes, magic is really important. 🙂
Your number of “followers” does not make you better than anyone else. Hitler had millions, Jesus had 12. How many do they both have now?
